There are many classes, seminars, and trainings that are available to LE. We organize and pay for those trainings handling things from A to Z , where possible.
Where and when we can, TLESG will give donations to fundraisers or other events local departments are having.
Where possible, TLESG will purchase and supply equipment to the departments or officers.
Soft support is aimed at officers rather than departments as a whole. Examples of soft support are when we can visit in the hospital, supply treat bags or support/host holiday parties and picnics.
Being involved in law enforcement is one of the hardest jobs on the planet. The officer is expected to be a master of firearms, civil rights, driving, paperwork, legal proceedings, weapons, opponent control, investigation, community relations and human psychology.
Smaller departments have a very tough role to play. They have to deal with big city problems like drugs yet, have limited budgets and limited manpower. Many officers in small towns are part time and have to work 2 or 3 departments to make a 40 hour work week.
Law enforcement is that "thin blue line that stands between chaos and order or between criminals and the potential victims of crime." They are the sheepdogs that guard the sheep from the wolves.
Because of the unique role of law enforcement in our society, officers deserve respect and support. The best way to show that we 'back the blue' is by concrete action such as what TLESG has to offer.
We believe:
That by showing and demonstrating support to officers, it can offset some of the cynicism that can creep into an officers outlook.
Little did I know that a conversation with a Charleroi officer 5 years ago would end up having such a major impact.
The officer and I were chatting about law enforcement training and how training for LE is too expensive, too far away, too inconvenient and offcers don't get as much training as they should or could.
I thought....This is something I can do something about !
Over the next 4 years, I began to offer classes that I taught myself ( grappling, knife defense, close quarter handgun drills, GAGE ), brought in instructors to teach (SIMTAC ) or paid for officers to go to class to become instructors ( PPCT GAGE ).
But also in chatting with officers it came to my understanding that smaller departments need other things - k-9 support, vests, tazers, and even vehicle maintenance. I created The Law Enforcement Support Group to be that organization to meet those needs.
We may not be able to change the world, but we can change our little corner of it.
